I’ve always been the type of person to put something on a calendar and do it when the time comes. Though I still use that in combination with this, Toggl is great for truly logging activities. With a calendar I tend to go over or under the time I’ve spent doing something, but now when it’s time to attend to some task on my calendar, I can press start and stop as I please to get real time tracking!! If I forget to hit start or end, I can cross check the time I’ve finished with the start time on my calendar and there it is — doesn’t matter if I’ve pressed start or not. Great, simple task logger that easily blended in with the software I use for productivity tracking on a daily basis! I will say I’d recommend the browser interface to a new user before touching the mobile UI as it can be confusing if you’re not sure about what functionality to expect.

I like using the Pomodoro technique but in a timer like fashion. Was using Forest but wanted to keep better track of my projects and to be able to edit the time on my Pomodoros. There were many times I forgot I had a Pomodoro in Forest and the timer would keep running in the background. This made it unreliable. I think Toggl might be just want I am looking for.

I use Toggl across my laptop, my phone, and my smartwatch. In theory, this seems like a relatively simple app to stay synced between devices. Each device would connect to Toggl’s servers with a websocket, and as soon as I press “stop” on my laptop, my phone would receive an event to instantly stop the timer. Alas, there is always a delay. I often open the Toggl app on my phone, a task I stopped yesterday on my laptop is still going, and it takes 5 seconds to sync up. Really annoying for such a simple feature.

My friend who owns a small business introduced me to Toggl. It has been exactly what I was looking for to record billable time on client projects. The interface is slick and intuitive. The iPhone app is simple and great as well. I’d recommend Toggl to anyone looking for a great, easy to use Time tracking software.
