Play the digital adaptation of the beloved tabletop board game. Root is a game of adventure and war where 2 to 4 players battle for control of a vast wilderness.
The nefarious Marquise de Cat has seized the great woodland, intent on harvesting its riches. Under her rule, the many creatures of the forest have banded together. This Alliance will seek to strengthen its resources and subvert the rule of Cats. In this effort, the Alliance may enlist the help of the wandering Vagabonds who are able to move through the more dangerous woodland paths. Though some may sympathize with the Alliance’s hopes and dreams, these wanderers are old enough to remember the great birds of prey who once controlled the woods.
Meanwhile, at the edge of the region, the proud, squabbling Eyrie have found a new commander who they hope will lead their faction to resume their ancient birthright.
The stage is set for a contest that will decide the fate of the great woodland. It is up to the players to decide which group will ultimately take root.
It's good but I don't like being charged for the clockwork expansion.
Just a few games played so far, all in fully AI opponent mode, and there have been some questionable AI decisions. Other than that though the app was well done. Artwork is excellent and game play is smooth.
Very true to the board game. Many scenarios vs AI, with extra restrictions or severely changed rules. Hotseat multiplayer. Online multiplayer, joining a game with "advanced setup" allows you to play the host's bought factions, so you can do a lot with the base game. Live (5min turn timers) or async (72h turn timers) international multiplayer. Game chat for mind games, but no doxxing how many games people have won to know who you 'should' focus on. +All DLC is cheaper than physical base game.
A very well-executed mobile experience for an excellent game. This comes with the base game factions and maps, with options to purchase expansions. It also has interactive tutorials to explain the game and factions, and solo play with AI components. The UI is excellent, giving you easy access to your actions and rules without feeling cluttered. Actions are animated, making it feel more alive than a physical board. The only real complaint that I have is the default camera is too zoomed in.
Genius developers made this game, it seems
