Great, but……
Great way to consolidate games into one location, but forcing you to subscribe to backbone+ (more than once) is just flat out annoying. I get you can cancel it right away but it seems a bit predatory.

You don’t have to install this app to use your backbone, but it will ask you to install it every time you plug it in and every time you hit one of several face buttons. Make it completely optional and maybe I’d buy a backbone again. But probably not.

Surprised this app made it past review and is available in the store. To get anywhere in the app, even the free, required features like calibrating your hardware analog stick, you are FORCED to accept their free trial with automatic renewal of $40. Very sleazy practice, apparently by a very greedy company. Hardware alone was $100, but apparently that's not enough. Considering returning my controller on principle, someone else will make something better soon enough.

My Backbone just arrived and so far I love the quality of it. At first I was worried because I had to take off my phone case to get it to fit, but then shortly realized it came with alternate clips to fit with a phone case. The app is well designed too. It’s good for finding all of the good games that work with the controller. I only wish that you could disable some things (eg I don’t have Xbox) and prevent them from showing up or hide games you aren’t interested in.

So I got the backbone as a gift from my grandma, it works well just the one issue is the app. The app is good in all, it’s just the subscription, it’s the fact that it’s required in order to use the app and the app is required for firmware updates. Please make the subscription an option. I’m sure I’m not the only one with this issue.
